Pros:close to everything, completely coed (except for roommates ;-) ), conducive to student involvement, interest house on every floor
Cons:ummm....there are too many pros to list!
Beaver Halls is such a cool place, its an 8-floor building, each floor containing a different Interest House. For someone that is interested in community service (voluntary, of course) Beaver is the place to be. In addition, each FLOOR is Coed--not the building. The floors are half guys, half girls, and as far as I know it, it is the only coed building on campus that uses that method.
The thing I like about the dorms is that you're close to classes & on-campus stuff. You also get to meet a lot of people, like it or not. Sure, you can go into an apartment in your sophomore year, but why?? I'm staying around for at least another year, I like to meet new people, so why not? I live on the 5th floor in the IST Interest House (http://www.clubs.psu.edu/ist) and we'll have a different group of people every year which definitely makes things interesting.
As a freshman, Beaver Hall (in Pollock) is rather useful. Most freshmen end up in East Halls waaayy up by the Football stadium, necessitating at least a 20 minute walk to classes and is much farther from downtown State College. Beaver Hall is within a 3 minute walk from downtown State College and lies just above South Halls. There are 4 dining commons within 5 minutes of Beaver so you always have a wide variety of dining options. Oh yeah, its also close to the HUB (Hetzel Union Building) and the classroom buildings.
The close proximity to so many things enables freshmen to get more involeved in campus life, the key to improving a college student's quality of life. Come to Beaver, it's everything PSU.
