The Quality of Life at St.A's is really good. Bad housing, yes, but the Social life and atmosphere at the College make all of that bearable.
When I came to this school, I spent my first night in Dominic hall. It is an old, almost prison-like dorm. Some of the Students there are loud and messy. It always smells. The Heating is noisy, the rooms are small and cold, and forced triples there are a nightmare. This is the worst of the dorms – the other three guy’s dorms are not as bad as Dominic. You might ask, “But if some of the Dorm life can be this bad, why come to such a school? What quality of living is that?”
Sure, the dorms may need some renovation and expansion. The school administration is actually working on that.
But what actually makes living at Saint Anselm College bearable is the vitality and the happiness of the Students. You can search throughout the country for a school with nice housing, a good cafe, great location, etc. But I highly doubt that there is a single school in New England that has a greater level of happiness. "Together" seems to be their driving word in the happiness of Saint Anselm College students. We work together to make college life bearable. The students are accepting of everyone, they are fun and smile often. If you visit the campus, even on the gloomiest of days, and walk around a bit, you will find a transcendent glow about the students. It’s really hard to explain it. I think that it’s something in the food or something, because I just cannot tell you why everyone is so happy!
A bonus is the excellent Food Services. The Cafeteria serves a variety of dishes, and is open for suggestions from the student body. The Turkey Club Croissant Sandwich is the best in my Opinion. The staff is friendly and will be happy to throw that extra scoop on your ice cream cone for you. And the Dining Hall is unbelievable – truly Presidential Class. A high ceiling covers the main dining hall that gives one the feeling of a giant mountain resort – complete with a fireplace, beside which a seasonal Christmas tree is erected and decorated. It really gives you the feel of dining at home.
Security is friendly and keeps the students in line, but never is too pushy. Parietals can be a headache at times, but keep the campus quiet for those who are late-night study birds. Upperclassmen’s housing has no parietals, allowing for serious parties on Friday nights.
The nightlife at Saint Anselm College is pretty good. You can go out on the town in Manchester, or stay on or near campus and party! I have been to several parties and most of them are safe and great fun. There is a theater on campus, which is always running entertaining programs when the party scene gets old. Manchester is not far and provides an adequate center for nightlife for students. Goffstown Center, only a couple of miles away, offers a variety stores to fit every need.
Overall, The quality of life at Saint Anselm College is great.
