St. Cloud State has the reputation of being the 'party' school of Minnesota, meaning that there is a lot of alcohol. And although I agree with the fact that there is a lot of alcohol around campus, it is not as bad as it is portrayed by many. I think that partying has a big influence on how students spend a lot of their time around St. Cloud State, after all we even call Thursday nights 'Thirsty Thursday'. But you learn to just stay inside if you don't want to get caught up in all the drinking on thursday night.
But there are a lot of other things to do around campus too. One of the biggest social events near campus are the St. Cloud State Men's Husky Hockey games. They are a lot of fun, all of the students get in free with their ID cards, and everyone is super great on those nights. All of the students usually sit in one of the many student sections and everyone actually gets along. You find that there are so many more people to talk to on campus. And a hockey game is one of those events you can go to in a large group or just by yourself. There is always someone there to talk to and hang out with, its great!
If you don't like hockey there are plenty of other things to do. A lot of students go down into the downstairs of the student union building where there is a bowling alley and pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball tables, all kinds of fun stuff for low prices.
There are so many events and other things going on on campus that you can usually always find something that you want to do, and usually if you don't have someone to hang out with on that night, just go to one of the many events and usually you can find someone to hang out with. I have found that students around this campus are very open and willing to have fun, and will hang out with just about anyone. Of course there are always the cliques, but you learn who they are right away and learn how to avoid them if need be.
