| mocl's Full Review: Simon's Rock College of Bard |
I came to Simon's Rock College because I needed a change from high school. The courses available were uninteresting to me. There was work that needed to be done that I didn't have the desire to do. The requirements of the school did not allow me to move along as quickly as I would have liked.
One day I received some information about Simon's Rock College of Bard in the post. It portrayed Simon's Rock as an intellectual haven for "younger scholars". I visited the school. I attended a class rich with discussion, and saw a campus vivid and alive.
Now I am here. I have been attending this school for the past three months, and I am displeased. Very displeased. Rote memorization is still rampant. The chance to delve into the topics that I wanted to explore is not made available to me. There are classes that must be taken, tests that must be passed, and homework (think of the homework that you did in high school) that must be done.
The dorm life is nice. Many students smoke here, and smoke in front of the dorms. The atrium of my dormitory is often filled with smoke on rainy days, even though indoor smoking is prohibited. I have made a few very close friends here, people who I suspect that I will remain in contact with for a good long time.
My main disappointment is that the students here are young and immature. Many of the older students in the B.A. program are just as immature, even though a few years older.
If you love to study, relish in a few intellectual friends, and don't mind the smoke then come here. If you want to run around and complain about how you are being repressed by the government because you aren't allowed to vote at the mature age of 15, then come here to express your radical ideas.
If you're looking for an intellectual haven, watch your step. This is just like a boarding high school with less restrictions.
