Skidmore College is perhaps the ideal college for several reasons.
1. Academically, Skidmore College is only second to the IVY's. It has tough standards, yet is not ridiculously challenging as some of the IVY's can be. If you look in any college handbook, you will see how this is true.
2. Skidmore is also well recognized for its performing arts. Skidmore is one of the, if not the only college, to give scholarships to talented performing arts students who do not wish to major in the particular genre in which they excell. This is known as the Filene Scholarship. $8,000 per year is granted to 4 students. The winners of the scholarship are determined through audition.
Skidmore is nationally recognized for its performing arts. In fact, Skidmore holds many performing arts summer programs which attract students from all over the world.
3. Skidmore College is located in Saratoga Springs, NY. It is within walking distance of a fun, hip town full of great shopping, eating, and clubbing. They even provide shuttle transportation every hour, on the hour, to students who don't feel like taking the 10 minute walk.
The dorms are lovely. Compared with all the other colleges I checked out, Skidmores dorms looked like luxury sweets. They are also all air conditioned, which is really a treat in the spring time.
The food service is good. I'll be honest, it isn't gourmet. But, the food is varied, and it always tastes pretty good.
Skidmores Campus is beautiful. Out of any college campus I've seen, Skidmore's campus was certainly the most appealing to the eye. Currently, they are doing construction on the college. By the next year, the campus will surely look even better than it already does. As you can see by the picture accompanying this Epinion, it has a little pond with sprinklers in the center, making for a beautiful location. All the buildings are modern, as the campus is relatively new, giving Skidmore a great look. The campus is also reasonably sized. You'll never have to walk more than 5 minutes to get from point A to point B on the campus.
Overall this school is great. After a year of attendance, I can say that I love it here, and I'm sure you will too.
