The school mascot's name is Rocky, and he is a rock all covered with moss. Sound like your cup of tea?
Slippery Rock University is located in a small town in Northwestern Pennsylvania. I graduated in 1992. It's big claim to fame is that it was voted one of the Top Ten Party Schools by Playboy magazine about 15 years ago. Of course, it is also famous because of it's name, which people find extremely funny. (I've lived in a neighboring town of Slippery Rock all my life, so the joke is kind of lost on me.)
If you are going to Slippery Rock University to party, I don't imagine you will be disappointed. There are a LOT of fraternities and sororities available, and many, many diverse organizations to join. I personally wouldn't know - I didn't attend a single party during my years of attendance. (I was putting myself through school, no loans, no grants, no parental support, just ME! I didn't have time!)
The best thing about SRU is that I WAS able to put myself through school, and earned a BS in Education with a minor in English in four years. The Education Department is very strong, and has some incredible professors. SRU is one of 14 State Schools in PA, which were started as teacher's colleges way back when. They take education very seriously, and have taken measures to make sure they never get mentioned in Playboy's Party School List again. (I am sure the administration just winces every time they think about it!)
The graduates of SRU also have a wonderful Career Services Center that helps with resumes, interviews, job searches, and placement. They were invaluable when I graduated, and they still have all my records in case I ever need them.
I would recommend SRU to any one who is looking for a quality education at a reasonable price. If you want to party, I suggest you save the tuition and get an apartment.
