Suffolk University is a small but good college located right in the center of downtown Boston, on Beacon Hill.
What makes Suffolk good? Well it's quite simple really. The students! Everyone who goes here is incredibly outgoing and friendly and are always willing to help you out. Don't be afraid to ask any student anything. It's location on Beacon Hill makes for a very interesting life. There are protests on Boston Common all the time, the State House is right there, and Tremont St and Beacon St are always bustling with activity.
You're 5 mins away from Downtown Crossing, which is basically, well, a huge outdoor shopping mall would be the best way to describe it.
The classes are small (usually limited to about 30 kids max) and therefore you get one on one attention that can be lacking at a huge school such as Umass Amherst. The professors are very good (although every school has it's downers) and some of them have made my classes an absolute blast to be in. Any class with Professor Dujardin is worth taking. =)
The cost is a bit high though. And we really don't see it coming back into the school (the students being we). It's annoying to have a 6% increase in tuition and then see that the elevators in the Sawyer Building (where most people have most of their classes) not working.
Because you're right on Beacon Hill, you have excellent access to the "T" or the MBTA as it's known to you non Bostonians (public transpo).
The dorm life is ok, but nothing great. But getting an apartment in your junior or senior year (if not before if you're lucky) is definitely worth it.
There's an activity for everyone, Division 3 sports, the radio station, the newspaper etc. Don't feel left out, get involved!
If you want a small town feel for a school, but want the big city action, come to Suffolk. If you can afford it that is.
