The TECEP tests, which stand for Thomas Edison College Examination Program, are an excellent way to earn college credit. These tests are very similar to the DANTES tests that are offered at most colleges and universities. These tests are recognized by other colleges and some have even started using them for credit. There are two testing days per month and you don't have to take the tests on site at TESC. After finishing my first semester at TESC and paying through the nose for books and materials, not to mention long distance phone charges, I am switching to this method to finish my degree.
The great thing about the TECEP tests is that for $20 you can order a study guide which includes; test outline, sample questions, suggested areas to focus on, and suggested readings. This is a much less expensive way to earn credit than by traditional means.
You will have to have some knowledge of the subject and be willing to study for a final examination on a whole semester of coursework to be successful. You only receive a Pass or Fail for the grade and if you fail, the test can only be repeated one time. The variety of tests offered is extensive and an hard working person could earn up to 6 college credits per month on this program. Indeed, 90% of my remaining coursework is offered through TECEP.
My previous review of TESC was very harsh because of my troubles with admin and somewhat deceptive pricing policies. This is a review of the TECEP tests which is truly the most useful service at TESC and I would recommend them to everyone. Perhaps I will have to update my previous opinion of TESC because this service definitely adds a star to the college overall.
