This school ripped me off! I visited CU before enrolling and was advised that they offered an extensive Conservation program and it would be the perfect environment in which to gain a multi-disciplinary education in environmental politics. That's what I wanted, so I packed my bags and a sack of cash for out of state tuition and went on my way. Little did I know that it was all a big lie.
CU had no Conservation department, or any department that had anything to do with environmental studies (at least they didn't in 1993 when I angrily left the school). The program was spread out over a number of different departments, with no focus and no means of getting help to undergrads within the program. All the program consisted of was your usual lib arts classes followed by a list of fluffy classes taught by burnouts, sellouts, or out there new agers. The humanities classes I took were a big joke, in which anyone who wanted to learn anything was the butt. They were set up so that you could ski or drink during your extracurricular hours and still ace the exams. Well I couldn't afford to ski, so I drank away my sorrows along with the few dollars I had left to pay for tuition and room and board. And the truth was that all my money was going to the football department.
There's another scam- the price of living in Boulder. Rent is absurd: $700 for a two room dump of an apartment (and that was before our nations "new prosperity"). Sure, the scenery is nice if you can see over all the suv's. It looks like a real easy going, healthy living sort of place. But you must have to sell your soul to someone in order to afford to live there.
If you want an education, I'd recommend going to a good academic university and just putting some pictures of pretty scenery on your walls.
