Ok, Well as some of you may know I am a current student at UMUC's Distance Learning Program. I finally was able to start taking my internet classes a few weeks ago. First let me tell you this, I am not impressed at all!
I always thought that a University would offer a little bit tougher course material than a community college. I was wrong. I went and spent over $1100 for two classes this semester not including books, And I have only had to actually open my book a few times.
The instructors use an internet based system call webtyco. They leave the students class announcements and instructions for our courses of the week. I go to the assignments area to retrieve my homework and I find that I only am given one maybe two questions to complete for the whole week. It takes me all of about an hour, if that, to complete my homework for two classes. I felt that this was a little to easy and it makes me feel like I'm not really earning my degree.
It's not right to pay so much money for a Bachelors Degree when your not doing anything to really earn it. What am I complaining about, you ask? Well, at first I thought this was going to be a piece of cake. Then I thought, after I graduate I am not going to know enough to do the job I want to correctly. My degree would be useless.
This is the first time I have taken classes over the internet and I am not sure if others schools are this easy or not but I would not recommend UMUC distance learning unless all you are looking for is an easy degree in basket weaving. This would be great for those military folks wanting the BA for Officer Training School.
Needless to say, I will be getting my Masters from a different school. I would like to learn something before I hit the workforce full speed!
