The Truth (Reply to this comment)

I read this review and thought to myself.. why would someone right such nonsense. University of Phoenix is a great school. I attended my classes on ground and had truly awesome instructors. For those that try to discredit the university by saying the school is a diploma mill.. then why aren't they on here saying that they have a degree from UOP and that the school is inadequate. I will tell you why.. because the school was not a diploma mill and the poster could not handle the accelerated course load. And for those that to come on the internet having never graduated from the university talking smack.. just shows their ignorance. For the record..I actually messed up one time in four years, ONE TIME! I had a direct quote in one of my papers that was more then 39 words and was not blocked according to APA rules. My instructor refused to give me a grade until I took a plagiarism tutorial and passed with a 100% grade. Which put it on my student record that I had an issue regarding suspected plagiarism. So my point is that the school has zero tolerance policy in place and holds their students to a high standard and will not think twice about throwing a student out of school for some standard work or plagiarism...even if it was not intentional. So for the haters that come on here and try to pass the buck of their inability to handle the course load, give the facts of why you left or were thrown out..so that everyone can see the truth.. you just could not handle it.. or found some other excuse as to why you could not hang.. and stop trying to blame a school for your shortcomings.

I agree, when reviewing this school, 1 star is simply too much. It's a shame Epinions does not have an option for zero or negative stars. :)

A past student (Reply to this comment)

As a past student of UOP Online, the staff's unhappiness and turnover really shines through. The instructors never seemed to know the official rules of what was considered attendance. They instead followed their own syllabus which is fine but felt disjointed . They flat out lied to me about the costs, and the materials (PDFs of book excerpts) I was supposed to study were so out of date it wasn't funny.

You were supposed to have one counselor for your entire time there. I was assigned 5 different counselors in the 9 months I was there.

I left almost half way through my MBA there and haven't looked back. The really sad thing is that almost none of my credits would transfer to a real university.

Terrible school! Can I give it negative stars?

Yeah, it is so bad there that there is a consumer class action assembling. If you want to check that out, info can be found at http://groups.myspace.com/apollosuxs.

I'm sorry you were taken in. Thank you for sharing your story. :)

Appreciate the emotional intensity, but... (Reply to this comment)

The review compiles a list of complaints and adds some detail to a judicial ruling against University of Phoenix, which is fair enough and much to the chastisement of UOP. But forcing Harvard's president to resign for unpopular viewpoints, ruling against U Mich Law School for considering race a factor in admissions or Texas schools losing students to death by partying do not rule out those schools delivering their major product - education of the students. The review does not address this central issue. As well as the author expresses him or herself, the review seems to miss the value of this forum.

Well-written review. (Reply to this comment)
by jvandegr, jvandegr is an Advisor on Epinions in Education
This is probably a different approach to writing a review of an academic instituion than what most advisor's would like to see, but it is well-needed in the case of the University of Phoenix - nice work.
