Pros:low tuition, flexible hours, good for working students
Cons:None

Washington State University's business department is tough and a lot of work. However, the work really pays off when you are faced with balancing various projects in the business world. Each course is taught with the usual style of typical classes, but they are also coupled with presentations of researched findings to real clients.

As a student, I was hired by a local company to do an economic feasibility study and present my finding to the president of the company and their customers. The pressure was on to do a great job, since I was placed in a real world setting. The company also hired a consulting firm to do the same study, and it was interesting to learn that my findings and presentation far exceeded the high priced consulting firms findings. I was given praise by the company through recommendations and a job offer. It was very rewarding to know that what I was learning in a marketing class was actually being implemented in a real world setting. Even today, four years later, I can still see my work being implemented in the company.

The business department itself is wonderful in its drive to create a new breed of business leaders. They are always coming up with new ways of incorporating new technologies and ideals into the classes. Students are encouraged to mold their own ideals into what they want to accomplish. Students spend their time researching and learning all they can about how their favorite companies are run. It is a top to bottom encounter that requires many hours of research and understanding that may leave students astounded at what information they can uncover.

A fellow student, through her research, was able to secure a franchise offer from her favorite company. Anything can happen in the business department. The professors are always available to help out with ideas and avenues to pursue. They are very knowledgeable and provide great networking for students. The education offered through this department gives students a well rounded aspect of all areas of business, whether it involves general business, finance, accounting, human resources, or information technology. Each student is required to take course in all levels of the day to day business environment and thus choose the area in which they would like to focus their career path.

The department also encourages students to pursue a graduate degree to make them more marketable in the business world. Overall, I would highly recommend WSU's business department. The classes are great for those students working full time jobs, since most classes are offered in the evening at the branch campuses in Richland, Seattle, Spokane, and Vancouver, Washington. I believe the business education received from this organization is comparable to any high priced business institution.
