Kaplan is for Stupid Kids

Written: May 05 '01 (Updated May 10 '01)
Pros:The books they give are okay to use for future testing
Cons:Everything else
The Bottom Line: Go buy the book and save 700 bucks.

My Parent's Way

My title is a little rude, but I was one of those students. I was pushed by my PARENTS to take this class. I defiantly told them that I wouldn't learn anything from the class, but they signed me up anyway.

The Teacher

I have never had a more unexperienced teacher in my life. I don't know where they get the teachers, but I was even smarter than him. Basically, he would spend 20 minutes (wasting my parent's valuable money) on one problem. He was a nice teacher, but a very slow learner.

The Kaplan Secrets

I will expose all their Secrets or Techniques to you. First of all everything they teach is in their SAT Books which sell for 20 bucks at the bookstore. One time we spent an hour learning about elimination. Basically it's eliminating answers you know are wrong. I don't know about you but everyone KNOWS how to do that. If you haven't learned it you haven't learned anything from school. Public schools teach it, it's something that you learn growing up. I took a pre-SAT test and you know what happened the second time I took it, my score was lower than before. The bottom line is Kaplan teaches you everything you already know. Their techniques slow you down to the point where you just concentrate on technique instead of the actual problem.

The Reason it Costs so Much

I'm not bashing just Kaplan, because I suppose all Test-prep courses are like this. The reasons their prices are so jacked up, is because of the Parent's goals and gullibility. Parent's want what's best for their child. They want their child to earn a 1600 and go to an Ivy League College. But Parent's need to face reality. These SAT courses will do nothing or very little for your child. If your child is earning good grades and doing fairly well with tests, their should be no worries on the Parent's part.
Let your children deal with THEIR TEST themselves.

By the way if you want to know I pulled off a 1400, but with no help from Kaplan. I am recommending their books, but not the courses.
