| mdsdriver1's Full Review: Cobra Electronics ESD 9200 Radar Detector |
I sometimes drive fast on my motorcycle (doesn't everyone?) I went looking for a radar detector that had large multi-colored display (for night time),headphone jack (it gets noisy without a windshield), voice and sound with volume control (voice works better with headphones) and reasonable price. This is the one that had them all. you can read the display at night just using your periferal sight. using headphones (see my review KOSS "The plug"..$1.99 adapter needed) you can adjust the volume to the noise level around you, with or without helmet (I live in ohio). The manual says it can pickup lazer 1 1/2 miles away (straight line) which at 60-MPH gives you 1 1/2 min. to slow down...even going 80+ will give you 60+ seconds to slow down.
UPDATE
I just got back from a 2000 mile trip (7-10-01)across 7 states on my bike with this detector. I've learned that the voice alert distracts when the warning is for a "safty warning system" alert, when the voice is on the first thing it says when it detects something is "Be Careful... and then lazar etc. alert warning. The "be careful" takes 3 seconds before you know if it's a cop or a construction warning. the only other problem i encountered was when the detector was in beep mode construction (safety warning system) would beep as a lazer alert. I-90 in western Massachusetts has lazer transmitters positioned along 30 miles of road. most drivers turned off their radar detectors and then there was a real radar trap
