Losing cable was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. My entire family went into withdrawal. But I figured that all of us were too busy to really be watching that much TV anyhow, so why pay the extra hundreds of dollars for cable. Instead, i decided to try an antenna. When I asked for one, the store clerk at Circuit City recommended this one. It cost about $40, and for that price I was fairly satisfied.
Although this antenna comes nowhere close to the reception of cable or even of more expensive outdoor antennas, it is a good deal for its price. The pickup was fair, and I could get a few local channels, mainly ABC, WGN, and FOX. For my husband and my son, who love The Simpsons, this was really all they needed. It does plug in, and this helps it amplify its reception so it can pick up signals far better than just a regular rabbit-ears antenna. And with some clever fiddling and trial-and-error, you can adjust for individual channels.
This antenna isn't for anyone who expects to have cable-caliber reception, but for those who want to save money, it is a good deal.
