Pros: Can listen to all of my music in the car w/o lugging around CD's
Cons: radio hiss, cheap looking parts
The Bottom Line: If you MUST have iPod music available in your car than I guess this is as good as you can get - for now.

I've had my iPod for about a year now and it goes everywhere with me. Well, everywhere except in the car. I won't wear headphones while driving and I had heard that the iRock was tough on batteries with sketchy performance. So I settled for playing CD's and listening to the radio. A tolerable existence, but not ideal.
A guy at work recommended the TransPod to me. Initially he said the price was around $100 so I decided to wait. However the very next day I saw it at CompUSA for $59.99 so I decided to grab it.
Upon opening the box my first though was "cheap". Where the iPod is a beautiful, the TransPod is ugly. The white plastic pieces don't exactly scream "quality". Nevertheless I wanted it for its function, not its appearance. Onward .....
It's very easy to slide the iPod into the holder and it is equally easy to remove. The plug-in parts however required some hard pushing to make solid contact in the 12volt receptacle. In addition to the cigarette lighter my Ford Explorer has additional outlets for phones, etc... Since the lighter is close to the steering wheel I though it would hinder my ability to steer. There are several different ways to mount the TransPod.
The charge light and the frequency light both lit up so I selected a song and pressed play ............hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss.
I messed around with the fine tune button. hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss, hiss. no music.
The fine tune button is VERY sensitive. I had to move in microscopic increments in order to finally get it tuned in. So I could finally hear the music. Faintly, and with the ever-present hissing, but still ....iPod music.
Over the past day I have figured out that to reduce the amount of hiss it is better to have the car radio volume down low, and the iPod volume up high (this is contrary to what is said in the instructions). If you play those two volume controls off of one another it is possible to reduce the amount of hiss ..... but it is still there.
I will most likely be returning this and waiting for something better to come out.
