| ziprz's Full Review: Sony MDR-G52LP Consumer Headphones |
My sis gave me these phones for Christmas, so I hope she doesn't read this review. I wear headphones at work for 4-5 hours at a time while I do graphic design in front of a computer. I can't last for more than 1 hour with these on!
These headphones are held onto your ears with rubber pieces the way that hearing aids used to be held onto people's ears. It is an excellent idea. The "headband" rests at the bottom of your neck so that your hair doesn't get messed up, and so your boss can't see you listening to mp3's while you are working. The problem is that the tension of the "headband" causes the ear pads to press with a lot of force against the rubber pieces putting the back of your ear into an uncomfortable sandwich. SONY obviously produced these after testing them only on Mr. Spock. I don't think pointy ears would help though. There is no adjustment in the headband or any of the parts on the earpiece. The only thing that has worked for me is to wear them upside down so that the rubber pieces curl under the bottom of my ears. It feels like the angle of the ear piece is actually right when worn like this.
Please, SONY redesign these so that they are comfortable. It is a great idea that just needs to be refined. Try testing these on normal heads and ears, not extra terrestrials.
I might as well put in the good word about the rest of this product, however. I listen to an extremely diverse set of music. Everything from Rap to Classical. These have a good midrange, and reproduce the bass and hi frequencies fairly well. The cord is very long which allows me to roam around my office while still tethered to my computer.
