| Ammins's Full Review: Denon DCM-370 5-Disc CD Changer |
I bought the Denon DCM-370 CD Player about 2 months ago and have been quite happy with it. The main reason for the purchase of this product was my necessity of a quality CD player for home use.
Even though I've been working with Recording and Mastering for 12 years and so developed my ears to an extreme analytic hearing level, I was unable to find any flaws within this piece of equipment under a home based listening environment. When taking in consideration a perfectly equalized ambient such as a high-end mastering studio, it becomes noticeable that the DCM-370 tends to amplify some low mid frequencies. The results are obviously boost and cut of some of those frequencies what makes the sound slightly unbalanced.
When using the coaxial digital output the unit becomes “flawless” once the procedure bypasses the DAC converters. That way those who are planning to use the digital output should not worry too much about the player’s capabilities, but consider getting a high quality receiver instead, one that can perform a decent digital to analog conversion.
The Denon DCM-370 falls in the category of professional sounding home CD player, easy to use and “ok” looking unit, with total satisfaction guaranteed for at least 99% of its potential buyers.
UPDATE 01/21/01:
After a couple more months using the Denon DCM-370 I found myself complaining about the fact that you can't turn it ON/OFF using the remote. I know it's not such a big deal, but it does bother sometimes when you're in "lazy mode" and so not really willing to walk 15' in order to turn it on. And plus, I do believe that pretty much every audio electronic piece of equipment should have a fully functional remote nowadays. Other than that, it is still a great CD Player.
