| toys's Full Review: Marantz CC-4000 5-Disc CD Changer |
The Marantz CC 4000 OSE five-disc carousel CD changer uses a one-bit Bitstream continuously calibrating digital-to-analog converter that delivers the equivalent of 18-bit sound. Philips, the parent company of Marantz, invented the Bitstream converter and has developed it to near perfection. The CC 4000 OSE also uses premium parts in its analog sections. To reduce noise, Marantz powers the analog and digital portions of this player separately and somewhat isolates the D/A converter. You can swap three discs while one plays. The laser mechanism quickly jumps between tracks. Features for recording include peak search, for locating the loudest sound on a disc, and tape edit, for arranging the tracks optimally to fill a cassette side. The CC 4000 OSE lets you program 30 tracks, which is made easier by direct disc and track access from the front panel and supplied remote control. This model also has random-shuffle play and a few repeat modes. Although this player's features match most others in its class, we chose it for its fine sound quality. Because it costs significantly more than other players in its class, however, the CC 4000 OSE is Recommended rather than a Best Buy.
