| jbrig38's Full Review: Pioneer PD-F807 10-Disc CD Changer |
I admit I'm far from an audiophile, but I do know what I like and I love this CD changer! The PD-F807 holds 100 CD's permanently and has 1 additional slot for temporary use when you want to play a CD once, but not store it inside the unit. This ability to permanently store 100 CD's makes this unit much more akin to a jukebox than a normal 1 disc CD player.CD's can be "registered" into any 1 of 3 user selectable categories and then called up for later use.For example, let's say you're a Jazz fan, your wife likes country and your 16 year old son is a metalhead.....hmmmmmm........could be a nightmare to search through all those discs to find the ones you're interested in.....right?Wrong!Whenever you place a disc into the changer you can classify into your own category with a few button presses(more on that later).Once classified, you can then later call up all the discs within any of the 3 categories at will with a button press.Pretty neat feature and it saves all that messy searching.Another nice option is the ability to save your favorite 20 tracks from all of the discs with a single press of the "best" button.Another single button press allows access to those 20 selections for listening to your favorites at any time, great for a party!
Unfortunately, all this ability to customize comes at the cost of ease of use as this is changer has one of the most complex set of controls I've ever used. The basics, such as play,stop,next/previous track and even the previously mentioned "best" feature are pretty straightforward, but if you plan to categorize the CD's be prepared to break out that manual as complex button combinations are required, and since this unit does not come with a remote all of the operations must be done on the unit itself.Bummer...but at least once you customize, calling up your selections later is much easier.
For those audiophiles out there, this unit does come with a digital optical output for the best possible sound, but for those of us with a more modest interest in music, the usual RCA jack do just fine.If you're looking for a good, solid CD changer/player with some nice,if difficult to use, features, give this Pioneer a good look and you may just like what you see.I know I did!
