| banofuego's Full Review: Sony CDP-CE545 5-Disc CD Changer |
I am a professional in the pro-audio field. I purchased 2 of these units shortly after their introduction earlier this year. I bought them mainly to be used as rental units, but also to be used in studio applications as well.
I am VERY PLEASED with the audio quality offered by this unit. A frequency response of 2hz-20khz satisfies the needs of virtually any application.
Using 2 units, the user can (at the touch of one button) configure them to crossfade--that is, when one finishes a track, it fades into a track beginning on another player. This is a nice feature, but what they fail to tell you is that the fade either happens 30, 60, or 90 seconds after the track starts, or you can have it happen "at track end" (which, by SONY's definition, means a full THIRTY SECONDS before the end of that track!!!). Unless you are playing some type of music with long fades at the end, forget this feature.
The Control A-1-II lets you hook the decks together, or even hook one deck at a time to your computer, Using the PCLK-MD1, to control your deck there. Add a MDS-JB920, and you can drag & drop tracks from CD to MD. Titles and all.
Yes, the CD545 displays cd-text, or it will let you assign a 13 character title to a disc...which stays on the player.
The power button is a pain. No soft on/off like other units, you HAVE to power it on/off using your finger on the front of the deck....can't do it with the remote.
any questions about the unit, you may e-mail me
