| bigbuyer's Full Review: Sherwood RV-5090R Receiver |
I am into home theater big time. My living room system has a $3000.00 receiver (B&K). I needed a simple low-cost receiver for my PC! I run full size speakers on my PC. I want to hear every sound my games put out. I also use my PC to watch DVDs, even though I hate that tiny monitor compared to a full-size tv. This review will be valuable if you are considering this unit for movies, music, PC gaming.
I use older Infinity Sterling fronts and center and Radio Shack "linoleums" as my surrounds. I have an Onkyo sub with an upgraded amp for the bass. The Sherwood is able to fill my room with great sound. For an inexpensive receiver this baby plays strong on DVDs and PC games. Music is also clear. This receiver cannot compare to higher priced units (features, power, sonic qualities) but you will get a LOT for your money. The Sherwood is well made and has a decent amp section. You won't find a lot of digitial inputs in the back, however. The fan is VERY quiet. I only heard it once and I am sitting 2 feet away from it.
The remote is a super learning type. It is the same remote as my B&K.
All in all I like this receiver. I would not have it for my main home theater because I am spoiled by the B&K receiver. If you are just getting into home theater or want to put most of the money into the speakers (buy the best you can) this reciever will work for you. I have had several Sherwood recievers and none of them ever gave me problems.
