Pros: audiophile grade sound on a budget
Cons: should have a separate memory for DPLogic settings
The Bottom Line: At the time of this writing, the unit may not be available. The Sherwood 6106 is the replacement unit and certainly worth a try in the budget receiver department.

| kelsci's Full Review: Sherwood RVD-6095R Receiver |
Capable of outstanding (stereo image and sound,5.1channel Dolby Digital) reproduction depending on type of speakers used and bass management chosen. I did not like DTS sound performance, but I cannot say whether the fault is the receivers, the dvd player or the DTS dvds themselves. Unless one has access to a variety of equipment, one cannot necessarily declare a fair opinion. The unit is easy to use and set up. The remote is only "universal" to other Sherwood equipment. It is fairly easy to use. The amber display from the receiver was easy to read from a fairly good distance. All readouts are in numbers including the volume which is a major advantage. The 6090R is the same unit as the 6095R without DTS and performs the same. The DIRECT MODE had the feeling of the old hi-fi term STRAIGHT WIRE WITHOUT GAIN. The HALL l DSP mode may be useable; I did not like THEATER or HALL 2. This unit pushed my 900B KLH speakers better than some others(NAD 3040 int. amp, Marantz 1090 int. amp.).
UPDATE JULY-2006-Still performs great. Sounds better than the RD-7500. I would have liked assignable digital inputs on this unit. Too bad it was manufactured before Dolby Pro-Logic 2 came into being. Each input allows you to make and hold its own adjustments to each of the 5.1 channels; a major advantage. I found it necessary to adjust the subwoofer channel on the receiver downwards to have proper DTS imaging, but the unit does play DTS discs fine(EXP: if sub level on receiver is -3 for D.D., I set unit to -7 for DTS). If our rear speakers are set in a specific direction you will get excellent phantom EX sound thus negating a real need for a 6.1 or 7.1 receiver particulally if you have no backspace room for the 6th and 7th ex channels.
