| marklafferty's Full Review: Sherwood RVD-6095R Receiver |
About 6 months ago I wanted to begin my journey to having a home theatre my friends would all talk about in awe. Then I realized that the type of equipment to pull that one off would roughly be equivalent to a new car. I then decided I would get the best I could get on a limited budget. I think I did that with the components I have so far. The Sherwood 6095r has become the backbone of my home theatre on a budget.
Specs
Not a complete listing of the specs but the ones I used in determining what receiver to get.
• Dolby® Digital/Dolby® Pro Logic
• Theater/Hall 1/Hall 2 Surround Modes
• DTS®
• 60 Watts x 5 (Surround Modes)
• 6-Channel Direct Input
• 5.1-Channel Test Tone
• Center/Rear Digital Delay
• Optical & Coaxial Digital Audio Inputs
• Preamp Audio Output (2 Fr/Ctr/2 R/Sub)
• Composite Video In/Out (3/2)
Sound
This receiver makes my little speaker sound better than they really should. The decoding of the Dolby digital/DTS is perfect.
Hook up
The hookups are all labeled and easy to access in the back. No confusion as to what connection goes where as with some of the other receivers on the market. One problem I do have is with the shortage of inputs into the receiver. It would be help to have more optical audio inputs with most of today’s components using optical. The delay feature for the surround sound helps in setting up speakers at different distances from the receiver. I would suggest using a DVD with the Dolby Digital 5.1 option to fine-tune the placement. Many, for example X-Men, contain a feature to help setting the speakers up.
Use
It is a very simple interface with most access done through the remote. The remote is not a universal remote but many universal remotes do work with the receiver. The display option will allow you to turn the display screen off when you do not want people to know it is on.
Over all
For the money I do not think you could find a better receiver. It is not as flashy or feature filled as others but on a small budget you could not beat this receiver.
