| realisticman's Full Review: Sony STR-DB940 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I have had the STR-DB940 for about 5 months and I like it a lot. First of all, however, the suggested retail price is ludicrously high, if you look hard enough you can find it for under $400 US dollars. This receiver excells at home theater. However, it is definitely not an audiophile receiver; then again it is impossible to find any audiophile receivers for under $1,000. The DB940 has many features and a wonderful 2-way LCD remote which allows you to see CD titles and radiostation names on the remote's screen. If you like hometheater this is the receiver for you, it is not the best audio receiver but it is not bad.
For those of you comparing receivers here is an accurate description: There are 5 channels at 110 watts each at 0.09% THD (usually considered inaudible.) There is 1 phono input, 1 cd in, 2 tape/md/dat in/out pairs, as well as 3 optical ins, 1 out and 1 coaxial in. For video there are 2 video ins/out pairs 1 w/S-video in/out, 1 video in only w/S-video on the front panel. There is also a DVD/LD in w/S-video and a TV/SAT in w/S-video. There are preamp outs for all channels and a 5.1 channel input. All speaker outs are binding post; however, Sony has the most messed up posts they only accept bare wire and banana plugs. Some of the receiver functions like the equalizer are a little hard to use.
In conclusion, if you get a good price on this receiver, buy it, you won't regret it.
