Pros: ES quality, not too expensive
Cons: only 2 component video in.
The Bottom Line: If you're in this price range (~$800), this is a great receiver to get. But if you have many component video components, wait a bit.

Why the STRV444ES?
I recently moved into my new house about 6 months ago. I moved out to the silicon valley after graduation to work. Of course, i was in the market to buy a new entertainment system, since my new house was bare. There are alot of choices for receivers, but i didn't want to spend too much.. maybe around $1000. My friend recommended i get the Sony ES line. Thus, i looked at the models. Basically there is the 333, 444, and 555. I decided that the 444 was good enough for me. It was in the correct price range, and had all the features i wanted.
My review
It's been 5 months since i've had this receiver. It's actually a good receiver. It supports all the necessary features. But, recently things have been moving towards component video. I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma tv that supports HDTV 480p. Thus, i want to get the best picture possible. I have a Sony DVD player with progressive scan, a gamecube, a PS2, and a XBOX. ALL of these have component video out. That means that i would need at least 4 component video in's on the receiver... well there's only 2. This is really annoying since i have to keep pulling and plugging in plugs whenever i want to use these components. I guess in the near future, more component video in's will be found on the receivers, but the most i've found on a receiver is 3 component video in's on a DENON receiver which retails at $3600! Of course, i'm not willing to pay that much, so hopefully, in the near future cheaper receivers will support more component video in's.
My Recommendation
If you're in this price range (~$800), this is a great receiver to get. But if you have many component video components, wait a bit.
