Pros: Strong powerful air mover at a reasonable price
Cons: Cheap enclosure
The Bottom Line: You cannot beat the value, but if you are looking for a look and brand it may not be the one for you. Also it is not a Hi-End too.

| dvzzz's Full Review: KLH ASW12-120 Subwoofer Speaker |
I have always been a big Hi-Fi junkeeI have always been a big Hi-Fi junkie and I remain one these days. I am confident that you cannot combine Hi-Fi audio equipment with home theater. Those are two different systems that require different equipment. I mean all these connector switches that you need to use to wire same speaker set to both amplifier and a receiver. When you do that you loose all the benefits of the pure copper 10 gauge speaker wires, etc.
I was always ignoring KLH speakers based on their low price, because I assumed lousy sound reproduction until the day when I decided to start a small home theater in my family room. I have listened to several sets of speakers even more expensive ones, and ended up buying Cerwin Vega fronts and rear. I bought their HT series. Their bass reproduction was the most distinct. I played several movies on DVD for a couple of days and I decided to add major boom to the system. I spend sometime reading about acoustics and figured that I need enough power and big enough subwoofer to make my experience more enjoyable. KLH came as one of the most inexpensive for the size and power. When I brought it home and turned on, it was shaking my walls and floors but nothing was actually impressing me, bass was lacking focus.
I was ready to take it back when I recalled the importance of placement that was the magic turnkey. I moved it closer and away from walls and corners. Placed in front and behind and ended up with a sound that is truly amazing. I can say it doesn’t matter that much what brand of subwoofer you use it is how you place it. Never place it in the back of your seating position, rather in front and… most importantly do not save on interconnect cables, they eliminate the pink noise.
I think this KLH is solid enough performer to be included in majority of middle class HT systems
