Pros: Excellent open sound quality. Crispest cello ever heard.
Cons: Doesn't stick tight to your head.
Would be nice as wireless.
The Bottom Line: These phones won't let you down. Forget the 490 else you'll regret it the rest of your life.

| thulemanden's Full Review: Sennheiser HD 495 Ear-cup Headphones |
Knowing I would go for a Sennheiser product I quickly dipped into my price range and focused on the 490 via the internet. Looked good.
I checked epinion and I quickly found comparisons of HD495 and HD490 and others. They were really helpful.
From the epinions I had the impression that the 495 was merely a more fancy design in silver, but I soon realized that the sound was a notch better and really worth while the price difference. Imagine having a set of headphones for 10 years knowing you didn't buy the best! So I coughed up the last fistfull of dollars.
Actually it was Danish kroner and the rate on dollars is way high, so that accounts for the lower price you see.
What I liked about the sound was most of all the exact, defined bass that the cellos in a Mozart piece gave. I compared to both 490 and 500 which cost more, but the 495 was best in all areas. Light roomy well defined space around the instruments, pleasant treble and the divine bass. Nothing like it.
Trying not to sound like a beer commercial I would say the headphones were really easy to wear and much more comfortable than 500. Even more than 490 even though they look a like. However they don't sit all that tight.
