Pros: So small, so portable. Great for imports and mix discs.
Cons: U.S. doesn't produce a lot on Minidisc.
The Bottom Line: Terrific device that's portable, reliable and never skips. Comes with all accessories and pleases me greatly. Available tunes may be an issue for those who don't own a disc library.

My need: tunes for the subway. A score for my walks in the city.
My solution: the AIWA AM-C80 Minidisc Recorder/Player.
The dish: I love this thing. First off, it's so small. I can fit it in my jacket pocket. All the discs are small. I can fit a fleet of them in my bag or pocket and they weigh practically nothing.
The kit comes with everything, and that's so rare these days. Usually, you buy a product. You go home. You realize you need five more accessories before the thing is even remotely useful. Not so with the AM-C80. You get the remote, the battery pack, the car kit, the unit, the earphones. Get yoursef a pack of Minidiscs and you're good to go.
Unlike CD players, this thing doesn't skip. It just doesn't. I can jump all over the place and it keeps on pumping.
On the flipside, since I happen to have a stereo with a built-in Minidisc player/recorder at home, I'm able to pump out mix discs and transfer CDs to disc with no worries. However, those without a home setup may wish to consider the variety of music available on Minidisc. It's mostly import music from Europe, since they support the media more. So take that in to consideration before you take the plunge.
