| tochriste's Full Review: Compaq iPAQ PA-1 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
This is an excellent MP3 Player. It is amazing that such powerful, incredible sound can come out of this tiny gadget. The player is well made (although the slot for the memory is a bit flimsy) and a delight to carry. It is handsomely designed and looks pretty cool. My only concern is that I may lose it!
The Ipaq player comes with two 32mb multimedia memory cards and no internal memory, which is a bit annoying (I prefer more memory in one card), however, I have since been able to find a 64MB MMC. This allows me to bring plenty of music on my trips. Compaq was smart enough to include a belt clip and not bother with the case. The cases I have seen for the other players are not worth it, as it makes it difficult to get to the buttons. I happen to have a leather pouch that came with the carrying case for my Ipaq Pocket PC, and I use that to store my player, along with the extra memory. The included earphones have great sound and fit comfortably in the ear.
The player uses 2 AAA batteries, and, yes, you'll have to keep plenty around if you use it often. I find this to be more convenient for my travels, as I don't have to worry about lugging a cradle around. AAA batteries are easy enough to find if I run out of them.
I found the Ipaq player easy to use. The software made for quick and easy uploading, and the players buttons were easy to understand. It has a backlight and shows the titles for each song, has a forward and back button so that you can skip to your favorite song. I know some people prefer fancier features such as a radio or voice recorder, but, in this case, I think less makes this little player better.
