| wc201's Full Review: Panasonic RX-ED707 Radio/Cassette/CD Boombox |
I hate boombox. They sound terrible, but I was surprised how good the sound was on this Panasonic unit. The first time I saw this unit was back in 1991. One from Japan. It had more features than one that is selling today. Why? Japanese electronic companies come up with something wonderful every year, but they are very hesitant about sharing new products. Anyway, going back to the review, when I first saw it, it was nothing like I have ever seen. There was automatic open and close button for the display unit. It had equalizer. Two Cassette decks. CD Player. Remote Control. If you have been looking for a jukebox back in 1991, you will understand what I meant. Over 9 years, very little has been changed in appearance. It still is very attractive looking unit.
Panasonic has simiplified some of its high tech features, and changed the LCD unit a bit, and added Super wooper.
This is the spec.

It's quite a spec. A lot of people don't know about this unit because of the price. It used to be really expensive. People thought why would you buy a boombox when you can buy a mini system. Now, the price is around $180. It's still expensive, but if you move a lot like students in a dormitory, then this is a perfect sound machine. It has a huge base speaker in the back of the unit. All it does is create large bass and pumps a lot of airs. You can feel the difference. There are also preset EQ settings, Spatializer, and Virtualizer. They all mean great sound. I have been using it for a month now, but I didn't know the difference until a few days ago. I was lying in my bed listeing to some cd. I could feel sound coming from the side of my room een though there was no speaker there. Only speakers in my room was this unit right in front of my bed. What I am trying to say is this surround sound thing Panasonic created really works.
Remote
It's essential. It controls every function on this boombox even closing and opening of the display unit. You have to see it in motion. It's one of the coolest thing. Only thing I wished from this remote is backlit. If you are trying to use it at night, you need to turn on the light.
Display.
It's very clear with back-lit orange backgraound.
Batteries
After all, this is still a boombox. So you can carry this unit around without the powercode. It takes about 8 C type I think batteries and Four AA batteries. OK It uses a lot of batteries. I am not quite sure about the battery life, but this unit has battery saver function built in when you don't use power plug.
I think this unit is much more than a boombox, so if you are, indeed, lookning for something you can carry around all the time, then I don't think you should get this. There are far cheaper units that can handle basic functions very well, but if you are a bit more serious about sound and looks, then this is a definitely a good choice.
