| voltaire's Full Review: Panasonic SL-CT570 Personal CD Player |
Looking one weekend in rather busy one hour search for CD player brought
me to buy SL-CT570.
What I thought would be a decent top of the line model without special virtues of its own
remained to reveal some hidden qualities that one would hardly expect and this be of sound fidelity.
A small sexy cable remote is one of those tools that merely exist for sake of adding more
letters of features you might read while looking at the package box.
But,lest I be not thought guilty of claims that same might not be practical to many.
It offers simple up,down, left write, volume routine but sadly without pause function.
Fit and finish in best tradition of industrial design, exquisitely delicate both visually and
physically -reason more to put smile on happy owners face.
Functions are simple and adequate no more or less you would require in
this kind of machine, minimalist button approach makes it to contribute
to player cosmetics even one step further while practical as finest.
What makes this player shine among competition is sound quality.
Upon first listen I thought I might have received unit with malfunction of
headphone amplifier, for it seemed it sounded simply to quiet for his own goods.
This proved half true, after later listening and some measurements that took
place, I was surprised to say least how linear signal comes out both from output
and headphones.
Headphones out is linear and non degraded up to 80% of its maximum output,
with usually power conservative power found in CD portables this develop
area where most would need just a slightly more volume but then specially
with X-Bass turned on,unpleasant even for non audiophiles sound becomes.
Standard headphones included are certainly no help in this regard,it is surprising
how inefficient are chosen and teamed with this player.
From other hand, you know that most of the time you need to buy a proper extra match
to your ears even with moderate aspirations, otherwise, you find yourself a cheaper model.
Headphone output is another story, after all, it is a cheapest part in any portable and
once you hear how good this Panasonic is,you have no excuse not to buy a small pocket
headphone amplifier deciding purely on your aspirations and expectations.
Starting from small as 20$ or further, hardly any reason no to properly inspire breath of life in your investment.
Those of audiophile aspirations are in for some treat.
With slightly more expensive pocket amplifier you can enjoy your music at full scale, teamed
with the right headphones such as Sennheiser 580p in my case, you have upgraded your
sound far that exceeds average home outputs of your cd player.
Sennheiser and larger headphones without extra pocket amplifier are hardly capable for satisfactory
level, might be adequate in car or in a room, but forget any other application because you will simply
have no power to isolate sound that comes away from your headphones.
If you want to use it with standard headphone amplifier, realistically most of you will, try to find
sensitive pair of micro/minis that are capable of loud levels knowing of that earlier mentioned 80%
linearity limit.
Strangely most appropriate match one I use for sports are headphone models from Aiwa they seemed to be extra efficient and to my knowledge only capable to capture quality of your CT570.
Anti-shock 4.0 is helpful but not for music lovers for its compression nature, while 10 sec is the right
choice when you might need protection while sporting.
This is very capable and highly recommended cd portable and let it be no wonder that it is highly recommended among audiophiles and those had chance to listen the same.
