I bought this player to replace my old CD player that had only a puny 3 sec anti-shock protection. My old player would skip whenever i walked faster than normal, which was quite bothersome.
I came across this player at Sears when they were having 10% storewide sale, so the price came to about $50.
As with all CD players nowadays, ditch the headphones that they provide. I've never come across any decent headphones before and always fell back to my trusted Sony E888LPs (Review of those here: http://www.epinions.com/elec-review-9B8-3A90195D-3A2FF973-prod3). It seems that manufacturers can produce CD players that provide high quality sound but they expect people to use their own favorite pair of headphones so they don't care much in that area.
The CD player, after switching to my own pair of earphones, produced good quality sound. Volume level is pretty decent, never had to go about 4 (out of 10). The anti-shock mechanism is fantastic and I've never managed to get the player to skip. The bass boost worked pretty well, but I can't tell what the "Train" mode is for. Sounds became muddy and muted with the train mode, so I've never used it. Regular features like programming and random play are standard.
My only gripe is the absence of a remote control. I take my CD player everywhere I go, so without a remote control I can't access the functions easily. However, there seems to be a model of this player that does come with a remote, but I don't know where to get it.
After 3 months of rough use, some of the silver paint from the buttons began to wear off. I would suggest that you get a case for it to minimise cosmetic wear.
