Pros: Great skip protection, good battery life, EQ settings better than most, small, lightweight
Cons: Poor headphones
The Bottom Line: While there isn't anything absolutly outstanding about this player, there certainly isn't anything wrong.

| alectosis's Full Review: Panasonic SL-SX270 Personal CD Player |
I'd like to consider myself and audiophile (someone very criticle of music), but I don't have alot of cash. So I was in search of a CD player that might bring the level of enjoyment that I get listening to expensive stereo systems.
I did some research on the Panasonic SL CT470, and I was planning to buy that because I've heard good things about the sound quality and battery life. So I went to Best Buy expecting them to have that player, but they didn't. So I figured that I might as well get the SL SX270. By the way, by previous portable was a Sony Discman (rather old), but I forget the exact model number.
I first tested the player using a Stereophile test CD. The sound was terrible, but that's because I was using the included headphones. I tossed the headphones in my closet and havn't seen them since. I suggest that you buy either the Koss SportaPros, or the Koss Portapros for under $40. But if you want to go another step up, buy the Grado SR-60's. I used the Grados while testing the SL SX270.
The sound was great. I can't exactly pinpoint how it was better than the Discman, but it just was. There was better clarity an detail. Also, the bass was tighter than the Discman.
I was also pleased with the S-XBS feature. It offered just the right amount of extram bass. The discman bass feature just made everything sound distorted. The Train eq function was rather terrible thought. I don't know the purpose of them putting that on there.
One of the best things is it's battery life. I've owned the player for over a month and have only changed the batteries twice.
Also, this is the first CD player I've owned that does a good job of resiting shocks. My discman would skip even if it was in my pocket as I slowly walked. I've only had the Panasonic skip once, and that's because I shook it for a really long time.
