| mza's Full Review: Panasonic SL-SX270 Personal CD Player |
I recently went on a seemingly endless hunt for the "right" personal CD player that would both suit my needs and fulfill my wants. My search began with a Christmas gift of a Sony D-E200. I was very displeased with this player. First of all my Discman from '96 had much better sound quality and the piece of junk didn't even have a pause button. I took it back and got an RCA(RP-2365), Although I liked it better than the Sony, it's sound still didn't do it for me. The next purchase would be the last... This Panasonic was a great relief.
SOUND
Great sound. I listen to different types of music ranging from The Beatles and Jimmi Hendrix to Shyne and the Wu. This player played the lyrics smoothly and the bass was on point and had a nice deep boom. It didn't have that broke hissing and cracking when the bass boost was on and the volume was up either. The system comes with those bud style earphones. I never liked that style personally but they actually sound pretty good. I do recommend (for the more serious listeners) getting a higher quality pair of headphones if you don't have some already. Overall awesome sound.
ANTI-SHOCK
Comes with Anti-Shock 3.0. After testing it somewhat extensively, this protection that is offered matches that of RCA and Sony's ESP and ESP2. I found it to be more than sufficient but keep in mind that I don't intent to jog much with it; just use it in the car, in a gym bag, or at home most of the time. I think it would be good enough though.
PRICE/VALUE
I bought this for $149.99 Canadian with the car kit. I think it was something close to $120 for just the CD player. It was a bit more than the Sony and RCA but the superior quality makes this product far more valuable. You may be able to find it for less than the Sony too. I think it's listed on here for less.
OVERALL
This CD player has all the basic features; play, stop, pause, nice bass boost, random play, track programming, hold, and others. There is also a line out for a stereo. I've read about some people having problems with created CD's (CD-R). So far almost all the CD's I've used in it have been CD-R's. As long as you have a descent CD creator program like Adaptec you should be fine. Also, regarding the battery power, I have yet to use batteries with it but the advertisement says that with Anti-Shock ON it gives you like 20+ hours. That's great keeping in mind that many other ads rip us off by saying the batteries will last for days but don't mention that they only last 10 minutes with the shock protection on.
I highly recommend this CD player to anyone who wants a high quality item that won't let them down.
