| henryy's Full Review: Panasonic SL-CT470 Personal CD Player |
I bought this CD player to replace another Panasonic player I had before, the SL-S320. I care a lot about the sound. In fact, I probably care way too much about the sound. When I say that this unit sounds good I'm not kidding. I used a Sennheiser HD 580 plus a Musical Fidelity X-Can to do most of my listening, and I can tell you that the details I hear on this CD-player is great. The treble is clean, with a balanced mid-range. I don't think the bass is particularly strong, given that it is only a portable. I listened to the Kodo Taiko from Sheffield lab and I was glad how much detail it gives. Forget about using the headphone that came with the unit. Go buy yourself a real set of headphones, like the Grado SR60. This combo sounds great.
The unit also comes with rechargeable batteries(AAA), plus a AA compartment that you can add on for extra hours. Power consumption is good. I was able to get 6-8 hours on the rechargeables, even though I use a pari of headphones that are hard to drive, and requires more power.
There are only two things I don't like about the unit. First, the disk eject button on the other Panasonic players worked great, but on the 470 it felt awkward. The second thing is that the controls are too easy to activate by accident.
It does play CD-Rs.
Bottom line, if you are looking for a quality CD-player, this is it. It costs less than any of the stuff Sony puts out, and sounds better too.
Did I mention it is tiny as hell?
