| bpm123's Full Review: Panasonic SL-S262 Personal CD Player |
I purchased this CD player used, so please read my review with that in mind. My review of the sound is based on my experience with Koss KSC-35 headphones.
My initial purchase decision was based on a number of strong reviews I read for this model. Be aware that this is a simple CD player- no bells or whistles. No equalizer, no settings. The only extra (if you can call it that) is the "x-bass" button- a feature that makes it sound like you are listening to your music from a muffled closet. That being said, this is one of the most accurate portable CD players I have used (if you never use the "x-bass"). The sound is crisp, with clear highs and solid lows. If you are looking for heavy bass, this is probably not your player. However, if you are looking for a portable CD player that can play pretty much anything, from classical to hip-hop, I would suggest this Panasonic model.
As for durability, I think that the SL-S262 is king. My used model came scratched, I've dropped it twice and banged it around quite a bit- no problems at all. The only complaint I can make is that the battery casing flap is a bit loose, and sometimes falls open. This may be due to abuse from the original user. It doesn't have a clip of any sort, so you do need a pocket or a bag to put it in. I find that the batteries last about as long as any other player I've used. CD removal is well done, with a button on the top of the CD hub which, when pushed, 'ejects' the CD, leaving it sitting on top of the hub. This prevents bending of the CD and wear on the hub itself. All in all I highly recommend this player for anyone but avid bass-heads.
