The Bottom Line: Good buy if you got extra 20 bucks, good sound, good anti skip memory, overall a big 5 stars. Better that Sony Walkman series.

| alseltzer's Full Review: Panasonic ShockWave SL-SW860 Personal CD Player |
Sometimes I want to go running, or jogging, alright, just walking around
and when I do I want my music to be with me, or some kind of sound that will accompany me throughout my journey, and by that sound I dont mean traffic, or an electric chisel chiseling the asphalt. I need music. Therefore I need a player that will play the music and not skip and not break if I fall, which only happens when I drink. And I dont drink all that often, alright I do. Often enough.
So obviously my biggest concern in a cd player is if it skips or not, and how much it skips. The more it skips the more it sucks obviously. Unless you like your music blurry and rugged, then you should go buy some low end audiovox crap player.
I got this player from a friend of mine as a gift and I opened it up right away and started shaking it and trying to see if it would skip, it didnt. and I shook it long and vigorously, and mind you, that is a lot of intense shaking, cause I know how to shake things.
A few days after that I took it for bike rides and walk abouts, and it worked miraculously, not skipping once not for one second or millisecond. That is quite nice because thats the purpose of it and it fulfills it. It has 40 secs of anti skip memory and thats a good average in most cd players out there, but my guess would be in the quality of that anti skip memory, not the quantity.
The sounds: the sound is quite nice, surprisingly enough, since most sports cd players are big on not skipping and small on sounding awesome, but this player produces amazing base and keeps it up, the headphones are very comfortable and deliver very good musical detail and base, obviously. I would not recommend replacing your headphones even if you think the sound isnt that good. Generally whatever headphones the player comes with, thats the pair that would work the best, because it is fitted to sound the best by people who have actually engineered the player: its engineers, and these people know what they are doing, so I would recommend to trust them and not replace the headphones.
What else? The display: normal LCD display, displays equalizer and track time etc. It however does not glow in the dark, so youll have to trust yourself and your ears to navigate yourself in the maze of sound quality and track numbers.
So what is left in the player to talk about it? The looks. Well if youre gonna be jogging with it than it will probably most likely be in a special pouch, not visible to anyone, including you, hence eliminating the need for it to look alright. However if you plan to carry it in your hand than it looks fine, then I am a man, and maybe I have no taste in how things look, but I think it looks fine, edgy, modern, not stupid. So I give the looks an OK. I like it.
Price? I dont know how much my friend bought it for, but I know that in a store it costs 70-80 bucks. Its not the best price for a cd player, you can get cheaper stuff, but this is bound to do the job and this is Panasonic and that is one good brand that doesnt make bad products. Ye it is always a little overpriced but its worth it. Engineered in Japan. Cant beat that J
