Pros: Can change sound quality, Useful Light-up screen, Small & portable.
Cons: Skips when buttons are pressed, Battery eater, Outer casing seems fragile.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend looking around for awhile first. If you don't already have a huge cd collection, and don't like cd-players and cd's, go for it.

| dehrik's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD2211 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
The RCA "Lyra" is a small mp3 and real audio format player. I bought it because I decided not to buy a cd-rewritable drive and a bunch of blank cd's, so I could just have different new songs every day. It's about the same price as if you would buy a huge collection of cd's and a cd-player instead.
The sound quality is pretty good in that it sounds a little better than cd-quality. Some songs sound really good on it, and others just don't sound as good. You can change the sound quality between 128k down to 44k, which means on the lower qualities you can fit more songs on. There isn't too much of a noticable difference between the sound qualities, so I usually put it at 44k. It just takes longer to put low qualities on the flash card.
The outer casing is all plastic and seems fragile, because if you press on some lines where pieces come together it sort of moves those lines. Also, I keep it in my pocket every day (because it's small enough) and the buttons are getting the paint scraped off of them. The lint from my pocket somehow gets underneath the screen, so its harder to read, but with the light I can read it fine. The buttons are spread apart and easy to use, but sometimes you have to press them more than once to get them to work.
I definitely like how small it is. If you take off the belt clip and just keep it in your pocket, it works out good. If you go jogging or are very active then the buttons might get pressed, and it will skip to the next song, which gets annoying. I can't really skateboard with it because of that, so I would have to clip it on my belt, which would look kind of stupid.
All in all, I wanted a music player that I can keep playing new songs on every day or every week. I didn't want a cd-player, because it skips and is very big to keep in a pocket. Mini-disc players are expensive and still skip. I think I got my money's worth, because I listen to it every day. I got the 64 megabyte card one (RD2204) with the car-adapter kit, because the 32 megabyte one is just too small. It helps a whole lot if you have a fast modem to download new music and a large hard drive, unlike me. I usually just convert music from cd's. You also have to buy rechargeable batteries, because it eats them sort of fast, and it will save you money in the long run.
