| mll95's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD2211 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
When my first CD Burner decided it was time to die, I went online to look for a new one. As I searched for a new burner at online auctions, I kept running across MP3 players. I hadn't seriously thought about it until I started reading more about them. It's amazing -- there are some now as small as a pen, although I would be quite afraid to lose something that small!
As I read more about them, the RCA Lyra seemed to consistently get good press. It is compact and was always praised for its user-friendliness. I found a good deal at an auction and decided to try it out.
I definitely agree with all of the reviews that I have read -- the RCA Lyra is easy to use and is a great way to bring a different mix with you every day! It comes with a small Flash Card drive which allows you to transfer MP3s to a small disk. I suggest getting a player that comes with a 64 MB Compact Flash card -- it can store about an hour of music in 128 KB/s MP3 format. You can always buy additional cards and increase the amount of music that you carry with you as well...
The instruction manual does a great job of making file transfers a snap. It takes just seconds to transfer an hour of music onto a flash card. I think that this is a great buy for people who jog or bike, just because you can change up the music right before you head out each and every day -- no getting sick of 1 CD or tape...
If you download good quality MP3s, the RCA Lyra will reproduce it perfectly. I was actually quite surprised to find a decent set of headphones in the box with the player! Overall, I am happy with the purchase -- although, I would use it more often if I were to get out of the house and get some exercise jogging...
The only downfall is that this type of device is notorious for using up batteries. I've seen in a number of digital camera reviews that people think rechargable batteries are the way to go....I would have to agree....if you would use this player often, rechargable batteries are certainly a good investment. I have also had a little bit of trouble with the clip -- the player doesn't always fasten very well to a pocket or to the waist on a pair of pants....
If you want to constantly mix up the music you listen to and dont want to spend all your time creating CDs and tapes, I would definitely take a look at an MP3 player -- this one has been a great toy for me and its worth my investment.
