I've owned my RaveMP for a few months now and so far so good:
Good Features:
1) The product offers a Line-In and a Line-out Jack in addition to a headphone jack. This is great because you can play the RaveMP through your car/home stereo, and you can record directly from a tape-deck or cd-player.
2) Built in microphone... so you can record conversations, classroom lectures, and anything plugged in to you "line-in" jack.
3) Plenty of Memory... I've only got 32 megs of space on mine (2000 series) and I'm able to put about 10 songs on it. If you want more, they're upgradeable.
4) Portability... the lightest thing I've ever carried.
Bad Features:
1) The interface is pretty lame and clumsy. It takes some time to figure out and the display is hard to read.
2) The case is plastic... although the pictures make it look as though the RaveMP is encased in metal.
3) Software... the RaveMP comes with a software application so that you can download MP3s. The software is pretty straightforward but it won't work on WindowsNT (only 98, 95, and versions 3.x). Also, it tends to crash every once in a while so be patient with it.
Watch-out!
1) Make sure you know witch model you're buying... the MP2000, or the MP2100. The only difference is the amount of memory.
2) If you plan to buy an additional memory card, get ready to shell out some bucks. Depending on how much additional memory you want, you might find yourself spending over $100 to get it.
3) Buy lots of batteries... the RaveMP is pretty good about not burning through batteries but chances are, you'll spend plenty of time playing music on it.
