Overall the RaveMp is good. I have the 2000 version which only has 32mb onboard. I recommend going for the 2100 which holds 64mb onboard and can be supplemented with 32mb removable flash card.
The Good
The weight is good, the design is ergonomic and the buttons are intelligently placed on the player. It doesn't get in my way in the gym at all. The software installation for loading new songs through the parallel cable is well done and simple. I had no problems in getting it to work on my desktop and laptop. Sound quality is good also. The battery has long life (one AA) so it's cheap to run.
Features I really like are the ability to record voice for notes that I might need to make to myself, and the ability to save regular files to the player and upload them later...almost like a small extra hard drive.
The Bad
The headphone jack is not far enough away from the internal parts so there's a buzz in the background when I listen to songs at low volume...not a problem with the headphones, I tried several pairs and hear the same buzzing.
I'd like a backlight on the digital display for nightime listening.
Too bad that the extra memory is proprietary and not standard compact flash. We have to depend upon Sensory Science to create new flash cards in larger capacities and they probably won't be able to do it as quickly as others.
