This was the first portable CD player that I have bought. It seemed like a great choice; it is small, comes with a car kit, not expensive, and never skips.
However, it does skip. The G-protection is designed for running, but not for any other athletic activity. For example, the fast paced pounding of feet is basketball makes this unit skip. Other than that, you can shake it, drop it(NOT recommended) spin it, and it won't skip. This makes the skip protection a lot better than many past methods.
The sound is wonderful! Especially with SONY stereo headphones. There are 3 different bass settings, which can easily be changed with the push of a button. I was surprised by the awesome quality of sound when using the car kit. It is much better quality than a tape!
Another feature which I have taken advantage of is the built in battery charger. You recharge special SONY batteries in the player when you plug it into an electrical outlet with the DC cord. However, it cost an extra $20 for 2 AA batteries, and they are not sold at the SONY store, you can only mail order them.
It has one headphone jack with an optional plug-in for a remote (which did not come with it, unfortunately). It also has a line out, which, if you don't mind the low volume, can be used for a second set of headphones.
It is not very durable though. Mine is still together, but the thin plastic would break in a second if dropped. And not water resistant at all. But if you take good care of it, it should last a long time.
