| maciek's Full Review: Sony Walkman D-EJ616CK Personal CD Player |
During the summer as I needed something to play my CDs. Since I was away from home and did not have my computer (that I usually use to play CDs) I had no other option but to buy a portable player.
I spent some time choosing the best unit in terms of sound quality and value for money. I finally decided to purchase the Sony D-EJ616CK. For a couple of reasons:
- to me it is very reasonably priced. I paid $99.99 in some electronic store run by a Latino guy in Manhattan, New York; as it later turned out I could have negotiated the price down to as low as $75 as one of my friends did in the very same store;
- the purchase proved to be good value for money. The one hundred dollars got me a decent package consisting of: a great CD player, a car kit, an external power cord, cheap headphones and four lithium AA batteries.
What concerns the CD player itself:
- it is capable of delivering great quality when plying your CDs. True I am no audiophile and it takes a lot for me to hear the subtle differences between an excellent and plainly good quality music. But I am not completely deaf. I know bad quality when I hear it. And I must admit I was impressed with what this player offers in terms of satisfying me with music quality. There is nothing I could complain about.
- I like the styling. The unit is round and nicely designed. Not much bigger than a CD (in diameter that is). One complaint: it could be a bit slimmer. It is about one inch thick what doesn't do much good when you try to put it into your shirt pocket... Besides that I like everything about the way this player looks. The display is just the right size, the buttons have been neatly accommodated all around it forming sort of an oblong silver panel.
- battery life is excellent the manufacturer claims it takes 32 hours to completely drain 2 AA batteries the unit needs to operate. My player has been running on 2 Energizer e-square lithium batteries for over 50 hours (!!) now. What's more interesting the batteries show no sign of losing the juice! Awesome.
- the car kit is a genuine invention for all car owners who have a car stereo with a cassette deck instead of a CD slot. In this case the car kit consists of two elements: a special cassette that has a cord attached to it and a power cord. The cassette goes into your car stereo and the cord is plugged into your player. All you need to do now is to take the supplied power cord, plug it into the 12V socket in your car's dashboard and you're ready to go. I really love this.
Summing up - it is a very good player accompanied by a indispensable car kit and a bunch of other accessories for a price that is very reasonable. Definitely recommended.
