Pros: Feature Packed, awesome looks, very dark when off
Cons: metal tabs make flush mounting difficult
The Bottom Line: Go for it! This thing has more features than... well.. umm.. other head units! ;-) definately worth the cost of admission!

| smoger's Full Review: JVC KD-LX50 Car CD Player |
Well, this is my 2nd aftermarket HU, both of which were JVC's. The older one was a standard everyday model, the KS-FX450, which is a cassette reciever. I was very happy with that one, and this one doesn't dissapoint.
At first, when I found out this unit had voice commands and the auto cruise mode(which I'll mention later) I thought extra connections would be required in the install. I was wrong. The voice system is handled by a microphone and wired remote which both simply plug into an external J-Link box(included), which also takes the input for your CD-Changer(yes, the write up on this is wrong.. there IS cd changer support).
Other than that, the install is very straightforward, just like any other head unit.
So, yeah,.. you know the deal about the Kameleon face, so I won't go into that beyond saying that it is extremely hard to see from outside the car, and if a thief DID spot it, they'd probably think it was a reciever with the faceplate removed. The only gripe I have is that the tabs that other head units have that make them stick out of the dash a little are still present. This premise makes sense for head units where you have to remove the faceplate, but in this case, theres no reason, and this detracts from the "stealthness" of the product. Of course, a little ingenuity and some spare black plastic can solve this problem.
The internal amp gives you 17w RMS x 4 channels, which is perfectly sufficient for most people. For those who are going the route of external amps, you get 3 sets of 4v gold preamps. The sub output has a variable crossover, and the woofer level can be easily set from the menu(independant of the overall bass level!)
Other features on this unit are the BBE sound processing, which really adds some kick to the music and the auto cruise mode, where the reciever determines the speed of your car and adjusts the volume automatically. Even more features include 5 different display modes, the afforementioned voice control, auto dimmer, fade, bass, treble, balance controls, the HS-2 tuner, automatic station pickup and memory(automatically find stations and preset them), naming for up to 30 radio stations and 40 cds, line input(renamable), CD-Text support, and more.
Overall.. I'd have to say this unit performs excellent and is well worth the money(200 bucks on ebay!). CHeck it out and you'll be glad you did!
