| stuckma's Full Review: Beltronics BEL 970 Radar Detector |
The Bel 970, also known as Vector LR is the best radar detector I have found yet. If the Valentine One can beat out the 970, then hats off to it. Go to Beltronics own website and look at it's test results. The 970 beat the 980 in sensitivity tests. Yet the 980 was always dubbed "top of the line"(and now it's the 985). I finally got an answer from a Bel representative on why that is and he stated
that it has nothing to do with sensitivity but rather with overall features. Huh?? The heck with the voice, which the 970 does not have. Give me maximum protection, that's what I want. I have had radar detectors with voice and trust me, you don't want it. It gets on your nerves real quick. Just give me the beeps and max protection, I'll take that any day. In my area X band is not used so I programmed that out and does it ever eliminate many false alarms around town. I have found the sensitivity excellent on the open highway. On a recent trip, I got a hit on the K band and immediately hit the trip meter to measure the distance between myself and the cop. Well, 2.2 miles later I met him as he was traveling towards me. Had he been stationary and not moving towards me, I probably would have picked him up 3 to 4 miles away. And the 3 year warranty, no other detector can touch that.
