hasselblad555's Full Review: Escort Passport 7500 Radar Detector
I bought the Passport 7500 because I believe it provides the best performance for the dollar of ALL of the currently available detectors.
It has given me more than adequate warning during road trips of 2000+ miles, has distinct sounds for the different bands and an easy to read display, and can get rid of false alarms around town better than a friend's Valentine One.
What I like best about the Passport 7500 is the ability to easily shut off the X band. Police in my area haven't used X band radar for at least a couple of years, but it seems like every grocery store, convenience store, or whatever store, uses X band for their automatic doors. With just two buttons, the Passport 7500 walks me through programming the X band away and the same two buttons let me program it back in for trips. That same friend's Valentine One supposedly can be programmed, but he says the instructions are too complicated to remember and weren't even in his owner's manual.
The only thing I didn't like was that the cigarette lighter plug seemed too big to plug in to my lighter socket on the first couple of tries. The springs on the side of the plug make for a real tight fit, so I had to get used to squeezing them in when I plugged in the detector.
Anyone who has been annoyed by false alarms with their old detector, particularly X band false alarms if you're in a town where you know the police no longer use X band, and anyone who simply wants the most "bang for the buck" in a new radar detector, should try the Passport 7500.
