| Debbie26's Full Review: 1717 Digital Answering Machine |
I needed an answering machine badly. So when I had an extra $17 I got me one. It wasn't anything special but that wasn't too important anyway. I just needed to make sure that I didn't miss calls from all the therapists and doctors that the children have. I had missed messages before when therapists needed to cancel appointments and it was such a hassle to end up at the office only to be sent home. So I looked over the selection and there was only one brand that I trusted there. AT&T. I bought the product, got it home, and set it up.
This has to be the easiest answering machine to set up. It is very simple. I recorded an outgoing message on the memory. It has an internal memory and you don't need to buy any tapes for it. With the press of a button the outgoing message is set up. Then you can set the time and your special code which is also fairly simple. There are two buttons that you have to use in order to accomplish this but it isn't rocket science.
The features are very functional. The play button for messages is larger and blue so you can't mistake it for something else. There is a lighted display that shows the number of messages you have. There is a memo feature where you can tape messages. This is especially good if you are going to be leaving and want to remind your spouse of something. It also works as a way to record a two way conversation over the phone. There is remote message pick up feature where you can call from another phone and pick up your messages. I felt like I got a great deal with all those features for such little money.
Little did I know that one day I would come home and find that I had 10 messages but none would play, it had somehow erased the messages. In addition when I next heard the answering machine pick up I realized that part of my outgoing message was gone. Instead of the normal "hello, we can't get to the phone right now...." message what I heard was Hello and beeeeeep. So I fixed it. A few days later the time was wrong and there was no outgoing message. This happens often.
I still have the machine but when I get a little money I will be trading it in. I don't like having to set the outgoing message every other day. Also sometimes the buttons stick when you are trying to get the message recorded.
It did work for over a year and it was very inexpensive. If you are looking for something that will last much longer then I suggest spending the extra money. I wish I had.
