| sailesh's Full Review: Panasonic KX TG2670 2.4 GHz 1-Line Cordless Phone |
This unit is my latest buy from Panasonic. I have used two other models of panasonic phones before and like their simple rugged design and excellent performance. Though I did not require another phone, this Elite phone from Panasonic grabbed my attention because it has all the features I could earlier have only on my KX-TC1870B and then some more. This means a cordless handset with caller ID, base dialing, answering machine, 2.4GHz operation, Caller ID on the base unit and speakerphone on handset!
Base unit: I could not locate a black unit for this model. Maybe Panasonic makes only Silver colored ones in this "Elite" range. Except for the lack of color choice, this is the best, smallest and cutest full featured base unit I have seen so far. It has Dual antennae and comes with a separate power adapter. Again, the base unit has no battery backup, but panasonic says that the memory is flash type and immune to power failures. I will wait for a powercut to test this feature. The base unit has its own keypad, answering machine controls, LCD panel with caller ID information and other controls such as volume and page/intercom.
Handset: the handset is the smallest cutest unit I have yet seen from panasonic. This definitely beats any other cordless handsets out there. The handset can fool many into thinking that it is a cellular phone. An extra feature with this handset it that it too has a speaker phone, like the base unit ... useful when you want to have some hands free conversation while being away from the base unit. A beltclip and standard headset jack are always there if you want privacy. The battery life is a little low. It worked for about 4 hours on a full charge even though it is advertised as 8 hours, but still more than sufficient for most people for a days worth of talking. The handset stands vertically in the base unit, which could be tricky if the base unit is not set flat. Since this handset is not as hardy as the previous handsets from panasonic, one should be careful that it does not fall down too often. For some reason, I sometimes get static on this handset. I have had static problems with other 2.4 GHz handsets from panasonic, but not with their 900MHz ones.
Answering system: Again, Panasonic's standard 15 minute all digital circuit has been incorporated in this unit. If you have seen one, you have seen them all. Except for the lack of mailboxes, the answering machine is OK for home needs.
