Maybe it's called a cordless phone, and maybe it is, but it sure doesn't sound like one. I bought this phone because I needed a decent phone for my second line. I went shopping at Best Buy looking for a decent phone and got much more, for only as much as I was planning to spend.
The Features
This phone has some great features. For one, it has a Caller ID screen on the back of the handset so you can tell you is calling with having to get to the base unit. Second, it is highly customizable, anything from the number of rings until the answering machine picks up to ten different volume settings for playback and ring volume levels. Third, this phone has can be wall mounted or laid flat or a counter easily and the handset is vary stable and never falls off. This phone is also equipped with all the standard features that would normally be expected on a phone, such as call waiting, speakerphone, intercom, locator, a wide range or changes for better reception, and an answer machine. It also has some special features such as remote speakerphone so you can easily switch from speakerphone it handset without having to end the call. This phone is also very compact, The handset is small and light and the base unit is also small.
The Sound Quality and Reception
This phone has great quality, it is as powerful as legally possible so the range is as far as is allowed. I can be anywhere is the house and the reception is not affected at all, that's about 200 feet in any direction, through compressed wood walls. Another great quality about he sound is that the microphone somehow doesn't get much air even with strong winds. This prevents that loud static noise you would get if you were to blow into any microphone. The intercom is also just as good as the phone quality, as may be expected, and feedback on the intercom is minimal.
The Bad, if Any
There are only three things about this phone that I can think of and that are worth mentioning. For one, the talk button is easy to press and the phone is designed in such a way that if you hold the phone between your chin and shoulder, you could press it and end the call. This has happened to me more than once but not recently, if you are careful it won't happen. Secondly, NEVER LOOSE THE USERS MANUAL!!! If you do, you will be lost, as of now there is no online material I can find on Panasonic's web page, only a place to have a new users manual sent to you. The phone has no display screen to tell you exactly what you are doing when you try to change settings so you cannot possibly change what you want to without the manual. Finally, this phone cannot prevent call backs, where you phone calls back some you just hung up with but when you pick it up, it is as if you called them. If your line is very bad with this, you may want to call your phone company to fix it before you buy this phone, but it is worth it to get it fixed instead of buying a different phone, most phones cannot prevent call backs, only a few new ones can.
This phone is definitely the best phone I have ever owned. The bad things about it are minimal and easy to deal with, such as not losing your manual or being careful when you hold the handset between you chin and shoulder. If I ever buy a new phone, which will probably be years from now considering how durable and well built this phone is, it will be as similar as possible to this one. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions feel free to let me know.
